Good Scientific Practice Update

After an extensive review, the Academy has published the revised Good Scientific Practice document. Alongside the standards  three further documents have been published, one summarising the changes between GSP 2012 and GSP 2021, an implementation timeline for using GSP, and another providing further reference points. There is also an updated STP Equivalence mapping template.

The key differences between the two versions are:
·        emphasis on the patient being at the centre of all practice
·        greater clarity about the purpose of the standards and how they relate to different parts of the workforce
·        clarification on how the document can be used by different readers
·        reduction in the number of standards from 90 to 64
·        removal of any duplication of standards
·        introduction of more side headings for greater clarity
·        style of language changed to make it clearer to the applicant that standards must be met or evidenced.

What has not changed
·        The five Domains remain the same
·        Alignment to other key statutory documents

In terms of the Equivalence process  - all new Equivalence applicants from 1 September 2021 should refer to the revised GSP. From this date, STP Equivalence applicants must map their evidence to the GSP 2021 standards, using the mapping template available on the Academy’s website.

Some STP Equivalence applicants may choose to use the 2021 version ahead of 1 September 2021 deadline. We will let you know if this is the case.
