Following on from the well received initial webinar earlier this month, the next two Monday evening sessions have been confirmed as 25th January and 1st February.
Registration is not required so please use the links below to join. Details are as follows:
25th Jan @7pm
Benchmarking Historical Qualifications to the New Scientist Training Standard (level 7); STP Equivalence Process for Aspirant MfP's
Lecturers:
Pauline Paul MSc FIMPT (Consultant Maxillofacial Prosthetist/Reconstructive Scientist, Scotland)
Muhanad Hatamleh BSc MSc MBA PhD MIMPT (Senior Lecturer/Reconstructive Scientist, Jordan)
Abstract:
Our training pathway has always continued to evolve. City & Guilds to BTEC, Professional Diploma to MSc. This forum will introduce the concept of competency assessment through ‘Equivalence' to a new training curricula. The process raises many questions. What is the process of application and assessment? Why the contributors have chosen to undertake the assessment? What does this process mean for the current Maxillofacial Prosthetist (MfP) workforce? When is an MfP a Reconstructive Scientist?
This is an informal look at the process and its merits and potential challenges for the profession. There will be plenty of time for questions and discussion after the presentation.
Please allow the presenters to finish their lecture/discussion before questions are put through the session Chair.

“Geomagic Freeform & Haptic Fundamentals and Applications in Reconstructive Science”
Two contributions in this IMPT webinar session:
Title: OR3D Presentation on Geomagic Freeform & Haptic Device Fundamentals- Tool for Direct Application in a Maxillofacial Reconstructive Science (15 mins)
Lecturer: Bart Swiderski (OR3D- Wrexham, UK)
Title: Freeform Surgical Resection and Recon Bar Positioning Guides for Mandibular Reconstruction: NUH Experience of Freeform
Lecturer: Jessica Jones MSc BSc MIMPT (Reconstructive Scientist) & Jason Watson BMedSci FIMPT (Consultant Reconstructive Scientist) Nottingham University Hospital Trust, UK. (15 mins)
Abstract:
OR3D is an innovation driven company, a leading provider of design, scanning and reverse engineering technologies. Suppling Freeform, training and supporting end users. NUH has integrated Freeform into everyday innovative design collaborations, Craniofacial, Orthognathic and Oncology surgery planning and manufacture. It is now a fundamental part of our manufacture and innovation. This forum will outline the fundamentals of the Freeform software and haptic design tool and their applications in Reconstructive Science.
This webinar is a focused introduction to those units thinking of investing in the technology and allow discussion by those units who already have the software to promote its use in wider point of care manufacture, patient solutions. It will aim to discuss:
- OR3D- Overview of the use & technical application of Geomagics Freeform
- NUH- Demonstrate simple application in the workflow for mandibular reconstruction & fibular transplant (MIMCS/Freeform/Objet Prime)
- NUH- Evolution of the surgical planning and guide design (KISS Principle)
- NUH- Human factors in developing a digital service
- NUH- In-house or Outsource? Advantages & limitations of ‘Point of Care Manufacture’
Questions directed at the presentations follow the second presentation and then an open forum for all users and non users to discuss their experiences.
